                                                                            In a landscape

  

                        View the village church                                      from fields and between trees

                        pale sky full of the moon blooming                     the pole star glints above yellow cowslips

                        wide 180 degree view                                       for a bee and a crow and a helicopter

                        chalk paths crossing the downs                          a feathery incline - then

                        rattle down a slope                                            with horseshoe prints

                        red berries bend near a stile                               grey lichen covering the post

                        flinty traffic noise rumbles                                   down a dark path full of dead tangles

                        doc leaves and brambles                                    litter-green plastic swarming with flies

                        steep heat pounding                                           only the distance has cool blue hills

                        rest  - walk                                                        and rest by the wire

                        butterfly blossom so pink and white                    ends in a vapour trail at the brow of the hill.
